I have a friend that caught 34 bears in a row. How does that stack up? Does anyone else have similar stories?

I would have to say he has awesome dogs if he has treed 34 in a row or is just on a lucky streak. Treed bears i have done 12 in row and I thought that was pretty good. I don't count bayed or walking bears. Some bears just won't tree so i would think 34 has a bit of luck involved if they are all treed.

I agree with Doug, there are a couple details a guy would need to know to really compare. What is considered a catch? A tree or pulled off bayed. We only count bays as a catch if we kill the bear. It makes the definition cut and dried.

To tree 34 off of 34 tracks, you'd have to have some luck and put down on tracks you know the dogs will jump. I know I can't put down on that many without finding a nasty sucker that won't tree and I try to avoid them in the summer. Or a track that they just can't figure out. But I usually mix it up and put down on tracks that are real old just to see if the dogs can work it up. Hell some of them might not even be a bear. Tough to fault a dog for not treeing a bear that isn't there. :D

Regardless, if you catch 34 bear in a row no matter what the definition, you've got dogs that can get after it.

18 in a row is the best that we have managed.

There are so many things that can go wrong on a chase here, or anywhere else, that it is difficult to go very long without some sort of interference or an off day.

Bears heading into sanctuary or toward a major highway and have to catch the dogs off. Someone else gets between your dogs and the bear and packs fresh dogs ahead of yours. Dogs get into a gang of hogs. Dogs get hung up on a rock bluff or waterfall.

Lots of ways for dogs to fall out or bears to get away.

I honestly don't know if I've ever really paid attention to how many in a streak. The best I can come up with is 5, thats because we caught 5 in one day. 4 trees and a bayup to end it off. That's been about 7 years ago... Last couple years we've had numerous 3 bear days, or 3 or 4 bear weekends... But then we'll go a weekend without a strike, or getting outran, or having to catch them off, or treeing a fox instead, lol... I think 2 years ago we treed 9 bears in 11 days of hunting while on vacation. We took one day off, and one day the weather was bad and we never got a strike.

Are training season starts July 8 n kill season starts sept. 15 n goes til oct 28. I'm a workin man so I hunt 2-3 days a week. In kill season I take a couple weeks off in addition. The dogs tend to start gettin in good shape bout mid aug. n since I've owned n bred this line of hounds normally its a suprise to have 1 get away after that til the end of kill season. There hasn't been very many. Never counted how many in a row. There's not a bear behind every tree where I hunt especially train . I've had some 3 a dayers over the years n lots of doubles bout mostly singles n there's days I don't put a dog down too. Percentage wise the bear put down on from a 1hr to sometimes a day old n the bear my mutts catch is very high. That's what counts for me when feedin time comes. I'd love to hunt a state with high bear numbers everyday for a season just to see.

I don't think they were all treed. There were some pretty big bears in that group so I doubt they were all treed but he's only counting killed bears, not training season bears.

Holy Crap Dan, He killed that many bears this season, thats a pile. I wouldn't kill that many bears in my area even if I had enough clients to do it. I take it he must shoot a pile of dinks?

Sounds like you hve plenty of bears if you are getting runs most days with some 3 adayers. Their are only so many hours in the day and so many miles a dog can run. These 5 bears in a day would have to have all the stars aline with a number of pop ups. . I never had 5 in 1 day and not often had 3 in one day and I am supposed to be covered up in bears.

It's over quite a large area and if I'm not mistaken, it was over a couple of seasons...maybe even three. I'll have to ask him. Also, we have a lot of bear in WI. I ran a bait on my place for an outfitter near here and I had 17 different bear come in over the first two weeks of baiting. There were only 4 coon in that same amount of time. I wish we had as many coon as we do bear.
