Ours is about 3 weeks away. I have my baits out now, season starts mid august. When does your season start??

Chris, is there many bear up your way this year? they seem to be spotty down here, seems that all that spring flooding has taken its toll on them in most areas around here. I believe im going to go to Sault. St. Marie for the opener for a week and hopefully get the dogs on a few.

Jake, bear populations is great here. Had great berry crops the last few year's. Seen quite a few mother bear's with 3 cubs, a sign to me that natural food sources are great. I don't see how flooding would hurt the population. Where in Ontario are you from?

Ours opens Aug 9 and I have been roading the dogs to get them in bear shape.

August 10th in Va. I got the bear fever!!!

Here in my unit in Idaho hound training season here closes July 31'st and take season opens Sept. 15th.

Our chase season closes sept. 29 and kill season opens first or second sat. of december

Chris im down around Peterborough, i hunt about an hr away at the north end of the Kawartha Lakes and into Haliburton County. It has just been a strange year here, and it was necessarily the flooding but when the flooding occurred, early spring and then it got cold again, small ridges and LOTS of swamp here, starting to see some more out and about but not like it has been in previous years.

Jake, last count I have 47 different baits being hit regularily. Most with multiple bear's hitting. My camera's show a few coloured bear's also. My closest bait is 1.5 miles to 57 miles drive. We have 3 full time baiters. Blueberries are just ripe, 3 weeks late. It was hard to get them hitting at first but now they are fine. I just acquired a new area but it seems the hardest to get going. It hasn't been hunted for about 20 years. See bears on roads but not interested in the baits. I know this is a hound hunting site but there doesn't seem to be a better site to talk bear hunting on!!!

unit 39 idaho august 30th i think

berries are out here too, Where abouts up north are ya Chris? i have family in Marathon, scouted an area by manitouwadge with lots of logging roads i might possibly hunt next year, i think im going to pack up and go to Mattawa for a few days when season opens as i have to wait until sept. 1st down here.

Jake, we are 1200 miles from Toronto. 9 or more hours from Marathon.
