All,
I am looking for someone who runs bears with dogs in Alaska. I have met a few people who run hare and some people who used to run bears, but no current guys. I am wanting to get some experience up here before I get dogs next summer and I am more than willing to pay fuel, etc. for trips.
Also, I run bait sites that could be used in exchange for experience behind dogs.

I looked it up for prince of whales and as far as I could tell it's not legal to use dogs up there. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Re: Alaska bear hunters
Sure don't need a dog on price of whales island, they are everywhere there. I live in interior alaska, and it is legal here. I do not know if it is legal in prince of whales island, the only way to find out would be to talk to the regional wildlife biologist for fish and game in that area, as they are the only ones who can issue the permit to hunt with dogs.

Re: Alaska bear hunters
I wasn't thinking need, more like fun. I've never been there, but my buddy said they were thick. I thought it would be a cool hunting vacation. I wonder if they would issue one to a nonresident
Re: Alaska bear hunters
Yea they sure will. I got up here a year ago last January, so I just qualified as a resident this year. I am a active duty military though, and they laws and cost etc were a little bit better than non residents, but not quite as good as residents. The permit has no cost. Next time I'm at the fish and game office I'll ask for Ya and see what they say.
