Rigging tracks

Seems like to me , i have the nose power on the ground . Above average , but when it comes to the rig it seems like I can only rig a running track as to where some other people's dogs I've been around will strike a trailing track . Note theses dogs came from out west and seem to find it easy to rig cold tracks here . I just can't for the life of me understand why I can trail most tracks I look for and see crossing roads but can't rig them. Might be my dogs or the nautre of them idk. Someone told me some good dogs They had wouldn't even hang there head out of the box . Does most people rig trailing or running tracks , is it due to nose or experience ?

I think it is experiance and to some extent drive, and a little training. I have cold nosed dogs that over the years have learned to pass by older tracks on the rig cause I never let them fool with them. I hae some that have learned to strike older tracks. My best rig dog will not stick her head out of a dog box, or rig from in the box because she has always been made to be quiet in the box. I have a dog that was not what I call a good rig dog that just in the last two years has started striking out of the box very well. Don't ask me what changed, but once they started doing it, they haven't stopped.

I've been blessed with several good rig dogs over the years that would strike those old bad tracks off the box but the simple truth is not all dogs will do it .Some are naturals and some take time to learn it.The dog i have now was a late starter on the rig but will strike a ancient old track now.One of the best cat dogs i ever hunted with would only strike hot tracks off the box and he had a good cold nose. Some dogs will hunt great off the rig but won't strike anything. As in most things i look to see what the parents will do to judge what the pups might do.

i have an old redbone female that will rig really hot tracks from box, but will take an old track if i walk her down road. not sure why the difference, but she is that way and so was her pups. dam good dogs, but very average rig dogs. i tend to just stick to running off baits. she will take a 15 hour old track then with no problem. each dog is different i guess.

the aint no where, like treeing a bear
