I've thought about it plenty every time I'm up there but it would be next to impossible in most areas. There are NO roads and very few trails. Devils club is everywhere and makes it nearly impossible to get around very far. Most areas also have brown bears and they are pretty hard on dogs. Its legal but just not very realistic.

Several guys I know have went up and ran black bears on an island (can't recall the name of the island off hand) it was fairly well roaded and no brown bears but truckloads of black bears. They said it was a lot of fun and there are some really big black bear there, but there are so many bear that getting after a big one was a little tough.

it was probably prince of whales island that youre thinking of but im gonna be on the mainland and i would rather hunt cats and fox but from what ive seen there is no season on them. bears would be fun though. although i dont think mine would be really good on bears. lol

Do people run hounds on Prince of Wales island?
Been doing a little research and it looks like you can't use a vehicle to hunt bear from Sept 1 to Oct 31, I would assume some bear are still roaming around in November though? All I've seen so far is spot and stalk hunters, have not seen any hound hunter reports. Obviously it is big country but at least there are some roads.
Just seems like it sure would be a fun dream vacation with the dogs. Beautiful country, unique area, and a crap ton of bears(and a declining wolf population

). What more can a guy ask for?
