I used strictly BMC's until I got tired of walking 2 or 3 miles to get in fresh sign. Now, I drive roads till I find a track and put a plott on the track. We still have some cur dogs, but use them mainly as help dogs and not strike dogs. I have seen a couple of curs with good noses that were long range, there just aren't as many in the breed as compared to plotts. IMO

we use catahoulas, curs and a couple of lab/chow mix for trailing and baying. we dont use catch dogs, all of the dogs but one catahoula will trail and catch. a lot of the bull dog guys laugh when they first see the lab/chows, when they see them on a hog the laughing stops. they look like yellow labs just have a shorter face and are more muscular.

Most of the people i hunt around in south florida that have a good place to go and some good dogs run some type of cur. (catahola and black mouth seem to be the most common) but alot of the dogs have no catagory they are just cur dogs that have been around for a long time. most try to stay away from the long hair but aside from that it is all fair game as long as it is silent on trail and can find and hold a hog at bay.

I still have some catahola, mt cur, blackmouth and other crossed up curs. but i have to admitt i now also run Walkers, and full hounds. no more worring about if the dog should take the track if the cur can i put the hound on it and when he jumps it i them put the cur dog out if it dont bay with the hound.

now if he has moved in the last 24 hrs it is his butt.

if you have a big enough place and have never tried a good hound. you should.

12 gague those are some good looking dogs. you ever hunt around the Perry area.

I use my Kemmer stock mountain curs on hogs, coon and bear. They are good on all.
