I saw a program on RFD-TV the other night about the explosion of the wild hog population all over the bayou state. I also saw another unrelated show about hog hunting in north central La. I admit that I'm just an old coon hunter and I don't know a thing about swine except that I'm real fond of bacon and pork chops. Until now, I never gave hog hunting as a sport much thought.
I was just curious as to how popular is hog hunting in Louisiana getting to be and why? Are the number of hog hunters exploding with the hog population, or do y'all have the same problem we have in trying to find a place to coon hunt with hounds?

Re: Louisiana Hog Hunting
Places to hog hunt are easier to find than places to do any other kind of hunting. When farmers are tearing up equipment and trying to smooth fields where the hogs have rooted, they don't mind you hunting. The only problem we ever have is explaining why some other hunters have left gates open, made cows tear out, or cut fences. We try to have a good relationship with the land owners, and try to talk to owners of surrounding properties before we hunt a place.
If you can find some farm hands that like pork, they will call you every time they see some fresh sign.
