I've got a catahoula, a hound cross, and another crossed up cur for strike dogs. I don't much care what it is as long as it can find and stop it's own, is silent on track, hunts short to medium range, and will back up and bay the bigger hogs.

Ya I've never been stuck on one breed myself I do have catahoula in most every dog tho from pure bred catahoulas to catahoula plott crosses and have some catahoula pit ridgeback crosses But I have couple buddies that are stuck on one breed and are true to it and won't change for anything, just wondering if anyone was like that at all cause I'm with you guys as well as long as it does it's job I don't care what breed or breeds it is as long as I keep stacking the bacon.

Generally speaking, crossed up dogs are my favorite. I have found that in terms of "purebred" hog dog breeds like catahoulas, they are not being bred for the field as they are being bred for the bay pen. The scent ability is going by the wayside losing their ability to find hogs as the crossed up dogs are being bred for nothing else than being good hog dogs.

Of course as I say this I have a purebred catahoula in my back yard thats being groomed to be my next lead strike dog. You can find good dogs at the pound and you can find crap dogs where the best are supposed to come from. In the end, when I need a dog I will always try to get a dog or pup that came from a history of dogs that performed.
