Here is what we are paying the TWRA to do with our tax money and license fees. All I can say is I told you so. If you are in TN and like to hog hunt or hunt period, you need to be pitching a fit over this. They cut it out in most of the state and next year they will cut it out in South Cherokee and that will be the end of it. They are slaughtering these hogs and letting them rot. They falsely claim that hound hunting couldn't get the job done. That is easy to say coming from the group who is responsible for restricting the hound hunting and limiting our opportunities. TWRA looks pretty proud of their catch. We went to Catoosa this year and killed 6 hogs in one morning. If they had to eliminate the hogs they should have given us a chance to do so. We have been paying for the experience for a lifetime and now we are paying them to take that experence away from us. If hound hunters have been transporting hogs, maybe they should spend a little time catching these phantom hog smugglers.

Just wait about two years and they will be begging you boys to hunt them. A good sow will raise about ten pigs a year. If a hog ever gets in a trap and happens to escape he will never go back in one. I know it is BS right now, but the government will help your hog population by doing this. If the state wants somebody to WORK at catching hogs, they will have to contract it out because I doubt many government employees have the kind of work ethic to do it right! LOL Time will tell if they can shoot or trap them out, my bet is no. We started getting a few hogs where I am in about 1990, now we catch between 100 and 200 a year with dogs.
We get calls all the time from land owners who have never wanted dogs on their place. When they see 10 acres of hay meadows destroyed every night while a trap sits in every corner, it changes their mind.
That is the very reason my Dad and I started hunting with hogs with dogs.

The gov't is not too good at admitting when they are wrong, but I think you are right. Time will tell. I know some places here in the mountains where they will not give the effort to go in with traps, so there will always be hogs. I think the hog population will increase because of this but it stinks in the mean time.

sad to here that. i always figured TN and NC would be the last places that hound hunting would be taken away since it has been a tradition for so long. just goes to show that none of us are safe from loosing our sport.

WTF? I cant believe the twra thinks theyre going to get rid of all the hogs. Im with you chris, theres no way they will ever get rid of the hogs in the mountains....far to rough and too much ground to cover. As long as there is hogs in the mountains, theyll keep coming off the front, just like they always have. Its a big waste of their/ our money even trying. I dont think it will ever pan out, but its gonna suck while they try it.
One thing that always got me about catoosa is if they want them gone so bad, why did they just give us hound hunters 3 days out of the year to do it? Not to mention its always in the roughest weather over there. Last hunt i was on at catoosa we had to ice skate to be able to hunt.
