Lotta guys around here use them, mainly plotts and walkers.
Re: Hounds
I run an all hound pack on hogs. mostly walkers and bluetics. just my bear dogs.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Re: Hounds
I am running 100% plotts here in the mountains of NC. As for range, mine are long range if they have to hunt for a hog. I don't rig my dogs so its 100% free cast.

Re: Hounds
i ran full catahoula's on hogs for quite a while and i bout wiped the hogs out locally , but i'm an ol hound dog man and it just weren't my style and i been pumping hound blood into my cur line hard . i do love a leapord dogs looks . now i got several full hounds plotts, runnin walkers ,blueticks that i hunt . but i love my own mix of leapord houndy lookin and acting dogs that i've bred up they work like hounds and handle like the cur dogs and have that extra bit of grit that i like . and surprisingly are still tight mouthed until lookin at the hog or if by some miracle breaks a bay they will blow the woods up with sweet music .

Re: Hounds
In cali its tuff with the hound breeds catching hogs we have alot of private land and the range needs to be hot an short. I have personaly got a cat line with a little mcnab it seems to work well they are short range an versatile enough that i can catch my share of varments an of course a few bear. It just matters what works for you just remember tighter mouthed an gritty dogs catch hogs in california no matter the breed. Thanks

Re: Hounds
I run a 100% plott pack. Back to your question, the pros IMO are the nose, range, and drive. The cons are it's defiantly harder to break a hound. You have to be a little more careful how you hunt them.
