Blackmouth Cur, are they good for striking hogs(pics)

Postby Myles Man » Tue Sep 25, 2012 12:57 pm

I'm needing a strike dog. I want some type of a hound with a good nose to find pigs. This gyp will run step for step with the redboneXplott cross.....but not find em on her own. Im wondering if a fullblood BMC are made for striking or baying? Is it 1 out of 1,000 BMC's that make a good strike dog? Also...do the long legs/ears really make a difference in how a BMC will hunt? obviously, she has short legs/ears.

well i know a bunch of folks that run nothing but the black mouths and do very well . but they DO NOT have the nose of a hound and a hound will out strike a cur dog for this reason . if you run a combo pack of curs and hounds it's only natural that the hound will out strike the cur . but yes plenty of blkmths strike hogs on their own .

yes the hounds have a colder nose but if you get the right line of BMC you can sure make a good hound sweat and make a medium hound look bad

They are excellent strike dogs. They have good noses and can wind very well a well as pick up a hot-medium track.

Kind of an old post. But look up ladner or howard lines of BMCs.
