These are dogs similar to the American foxhound. I know black mouth curs are used but which typical HOUND breeds are used on pigs?

Just about all of my dogs have running walker in them, some half bloods and some down to less than 1/16th, depends on the territory your hunting as to what type of dogs needs to be used...

We caught hogs with daddy's English pointers back in the early 50s. No problem, they could cover a lot of ground and smell hog scent a long way. Some would catch and some just bayed. Some liver spotted bird dogs can be rough. I think if I was trying to be a serious hog Hunter I would try the pure pointer birddog.

I have seen some running walkers used on hogs...we do not currently have any but we do use some full Blooded Treeing walkers, ONE english RED TICK ., a couple Blue ticks ...too ..MY traditional dogs are Part PLOTT , PART CATAHOULA ...with a little MT. cur thrown in ...and YES it all depends on the type wild hog you are running ...Feral Boar we use more Catahoula dogs ( or black mouth, or east Texas curs etc) ..the more RUSSIAN blood in the hogs the more LONG RUNNING dogs you need around here ..These clear cuts can be awful to try to even tear into ..to get to bayed dogs !!!

Dixiehoghunter....MY all time favorite hog dogs have been half Catahoula (old lines that had lots of hunt to them ) and half Plott...seems they have the long range running to stay with some hard running hogs ...and SOME have enough sense to LIVE over the hunts !! LOL

I run the running walker cross here on Kauai n they’re great for finding the hogs n chasing them down. Depending on where you go it can be a long day.
