I put a little more protection on the under side because like you said there is always that one time, and that time happend to me, we caught a big boar and he fliped one of my bulldogs onto his back and bit him in his belly, I just put a thin layer of ballistic nylon on the belly, so the hog bites nylon rather then skin. But the basic design of the vest is good, I just wanted alittle more on the under side, but not so much as to slow down the dog or get him really hot. But it is true most all of the hits on my vests are on the chest and sholders.

Gidday,
Have just read this post and noticed the photo of the Basalt Breast Plate. I have one of these for my wifes Retriever that considers himself a pig dog here in New Zealand. Have found the plate good apart from the way is sat on the dogs neck. One particular hunt recently the bit that sticks out like a duck bill must have been resting on his wind pipe and just about cut his air supply off
A bit dicy to say the least.
I have now seperated the collar from the plate and run a different collar with just the bib of the plate remaining. Not saying the plates no good at all they are well made and sounds like they do the job, just something to be aware of.
Difficult job making a custom made plate when you are going only by measurements and never sight the dog.
