Ive have still hunted hogs many times but im interested in hunting with dogs. But im not sure what dog would be best. My grandpa has raised and trained many deer dogs and bird dogs so I some experence with hunting dogs.

try to hook up with somone in your area who runs hog dogs. That would be your best place to start. Im sure you could buy a dog from out of your area but id bet you could find something close to home much easier.

I would suggest if you want to hunt hogs get you a curr dog start with 1 see how you like it. They dont come cheap trained up though I started all mine from pups in a bay pen and they do alright now but I have hunted the population down on my land they are getting harder to find every year I catch and kill though I just added a walker hound to my bloodline if you dont have alot of hogs this type dog may be what you need. So to sum it up # 1 if you have your own dog you can go when your ready #2 Find out what the hog population is where you hunt and choose a dog by this. Truest words I ever heard about hog dogs was there are 2 types those you put on hogs and those that put you on hogs. #3 Decide if your gonna train a dog or buy one I think training one will teach you as much as the dog I have a half acre bay pen and learned alot about wild hogs by handling them.Good luck

thank you guys for all the tips but i got a couple of more quetions for you guys my cur dog lassie which really dosent seem like a good name for a cur dog but i didnt name her she had puppies recently and is there a way you can test to see which puppy would be the most likely to be a good hog dog and if i cant train um do you know anybody that will train um in arkansas

Just a tip, but don't put any young pups in the bay pen unless you have the hog tied or something where it can't get to them. A lot of hogs will come looking for the dogs in a pen, and the young ones aren't quick enough sometimes to dodge them. You don't want to set a young pup up for failure.

Pups are a roll of the dice in a lot of ways. One of the easiest ways to train young dogs is to hunt them with experienced dogs. Really need to hook up with an experienced guy to learn the ropes.
