QUICK QUESTION???????

Postby MUD AND BLOOD » Mon Mar 21, 2011 5:03 pm

I just got permission from a farmer to hunt his land and I located three fields that surround a small swamp with a ton of Hog sign in the fields and the swamp. I know you cant make hogs be there, but I would like to have the best possible chance when I let my dogs go. So, my question is what can I do to increase the probability of hogs being there. I am not real familiar with the land and not real sure when they are moving but I do know hogs are there. Any tips or strategies would be appreciated.

What we do on new places is to look for the freshest sign. Another good idea is to go on the down wind side of that lil swampy area and cut loose there, always be aware of the wind like deer hunters are. Before hunting any new place go introduce yourself to the neighboring land owners and let them know what you'll be doing and see if its ok to get your dogs if they cross the fence.

Agree with buchunter on that one. Other things you can do is put in a game cam on a hog intersection. One with the time and date included with the pic. It will give you a virtual picture of what your dealing with and when. Bait always works as well as a diesel rub (piece of diesel soaked carpet wraped around a tree). The hogs will rub on it often. Another important thing to do is get familiar with the property. On the ranch I have I probably scout it as much as hunt it. Every time I go I investigate someplace new. Even small ranches have a million little nooks you can investigate.
