A friend of mine is bringing me a 6 month old Bluetick Gip, she is regestered and was bought thinkin they could keep her in the house as a housedog. I have no experience with hounds all I hunt is a line of cur dogs that has been in my family for years. I was just wanderin if anybody runs blueticks on hogs and if some of them can be gritty. Also has anybody crossed one with a good bulldog or a cur/bulldog cross and had good results? Get back at me if yall can, thanx.

I have a blue bitch that will stay with a track and bay close, but not too close. She isn't the same breed of dog, as the one you speak of ,but she is a grade dog that takes on a bluetick color. I have thought about crossing her and her cold nose with a good cur, but I have yet to find the cur that meets my standards. There a guys that run alot of blueticks and catch a ton of hogs. Have fun, Kiel

I used a bluetick for six years as a strike dog. He could take a track and move it, opening about every two hundred yards. He weighed about 80lbs so he was slow and very hard on his feet. I'm surprised he lasted that long because he was stupid gritty, sometimes on the verge of suicidal. I usually used him as a pup trainer because with a pack of dogs he was straight catch. The first hunt that we went on in January he tried to catch a 250 lb boar and made a fatal mistake. He wasn't the best, but he was a hog dog. One thing about him, he dang sure wasn't scared of a big hog.

Yeah I was wanderin if they could be gritty, My dad told me back when he was young some of his buddies had some blues and they would catch some. I would'nt mind her bein a lil gritty. Yeah SWAMPMONSTER that's the problem with huntin with dogs in Florida is gators, I hate em and I don't know why they are so protected. I lost a couple decent cowdogs to gators a couple of years ago but somehow the gators that got em died their selves soon after.
