Weekend hunt in Silverton

Postby silverton boar dogs » Tue Feb 12, 2008 3:02 am

We had a great hunt this weekend with 5 friends that came up for a hunt with me and the wife. The weather was bad, super dry and windy. When Cody and his crew come to hunt they really bring the food....The steaks and those Buttermilk pies...OH MY...

Friday night Emily, Jeff and I loaded four strike dogs and two catch dogs and hit the pasture two hours after dark. We hit a track right quick and the race was on. After 10 min. with no bay and no dogs checking back in I broke out the tracking system and picked up a moving signal that went off in the canyon and then went dead. We drove to the last spot I new they were and started calling dogs. I got 2 pretty quick, but the hound crosses were still on the job and I could not get a signal on the tracker. We went to the house got some food, water, and 4 freash dogs and kept hunting and trying to track the missing dogs, wind got up and quit at 5:30 am. Up and tracking at 10 and I finally got a beep...2 hours later, a mile and a half north, and 500 feet down I found Jesse and Wiesle bayed on a little sounder of small pigs. 15 hours in the canyon had them in bad shape with some cuts I got them to the house for some first aid and Cody was allready unloaded and ready to hunt.

We hit the pasture Sat. night and got blanked early, and the wind would not quit so we did.

Sunday morning we went for a little canyon hunt.
We had a split bay going down there and my young dogs did a super job. My youg Cat female got her first really good boar bayed. She was bayed up close with a machine gun chop, and put the teeth on him when he tried to break. I sent in my Littlebulldog to catch but he could not make it up the cliff to the bay. Cody and his catch dogs couldn't get there in time, so we got some pics but no catch. I was great to see two of my young dogs bay and handle a nice boar in some rough country.

Hunting with good friends is always a great time.
