Depends if they are wanting to play or hunt and how many older dogs your running with them, and what are you considerig a pup? I got 2 young pups about 8-9 months old and one thats about 11 months old a gyp thats 1 year and 4 months old i can turn just them loose and catch coons and not have to worry about them playing around and not hunting because they hunt and do what they are supposed too..Most of the time i will hunt 2 or 3 of them and an older clean, good locating, tree dog. I am talking coon hunting here in the valley creeks, rivers and tulies. Alot has to do with where your hunting and what kinda trash game is in the area and how they react to it.

i do not like more than one pup running with the big dogs while hog hunting . i will usually turn out a pair of grown dogs and a young dog when hunting . to many pups and you are asking for truoble [I M O ] at a bay on a bad hog i dont want a bunch of young dogs in the way espcially when my seasond dogs are trying to dodge a charge only to run into an inexperianced young dog and get caught and cut as a result . been thar and done that . i keep many young up and comers and just rotate them in and out as we hunt . i hunt alot so they all get their chance . one pup at a time speeds up their education as there are alot less distractions .

Thanks for the input guys. I've been taking turns with my young pups lately and i think they are getting more out of each hunt that way. Its alot easilier to keep an eye on a particular dogs that way.
