will it make a good strike dog?

Postby Myles Man » Thu Sep 27, 2012 12:55 pm

I got a nice free pup.....
Mom is a CatXHound, Dad is RedboneXMountain CurXPlottXPit.......
He is now 14 weeks old, he has a lil howl goning on thats real nice.
How do I know if he will find pigs, and how do I train him to find em? is it gonna be natural?
My guess is show him the bay pen once or twice a month till hes 10 mths old,

Neat looking little pup. Just remember there is never any guarantees that he will make a dog but he might turn out to be allstar also. Just hunt him and find out as you go.

He is a neat little guy, good luck with him. Let us know how he does when you show him the bay pens.

It will not come natural you have to train him
When he is young, 4-6 months old show him a small hog with older dogs, get him into it. Start uping the size of the hogs bit by bit and their rankness with less help.
Then, at around 10-12 months old take him to the woods with more experienced dogs, he will learn skills by observing them.

How do you know if he will find pigs? you don't. He should if you put the time into it. He will make a great strike dog, have some grit hopefully.
Just work him in the pen young, alot of help with older dogs, and he should turn out nice.
