Took my daughter out on Saturday with the dogs and we caught a couple of decent size sows.

Re: Couple of sows we caught
I dont see many Kemmer stock curs out by me, Im told they often make very good long range finders, and gritty bay dogs... have you worked other cur types, for comparison?
Its always great to hear opinions from other boar hunters, great pictures, cheers

Re: Couple of sows we caught
Thanks for the compliments.
Just as in any breed of dog, there are some great Kemmers, some really good Kemmers, and there are plenty of culls.
I'm not an expert on the different bloodlines, so I defer to Mr. Kemmer, or others, for guidance.
The ones I have do hunt deep and have a lot of motor to them. As far as gritty, I have gone away from the real gritty dogs. I got tired of the repair costs and wasted down time waiting for dogs to heal, not to mention the price of replacing a finished strike dog. So I do not promote my pups as the 'gritty' style, but they are solid find and bay dogs.
I started out hog doggin' about 13 years ago and have tried just about every breed there is out there for hog dogs. I've had some great cross bred dogs and some good pure bred dogs, but when I got turned onto Kemmer dogs about 6 or 7 years ago, I was hooked. Not because they are the best hog dogs in the world, but because they suit my needs as a great all around, family dog that also excels on game. I just like them, plain and simple. They make me happy, can't explain it, they just do.
I often remind people that Mr. Kemmer has told me many times, when he was a young man and was using his Kemmers to put money in the bank and food on the table, he wanted his Kemmer dogs to bay a hog, not catch it. Paying hunters would ease into the bay and shoot the hog. So dogs that were catchy and hanging onto the hog were robbing him of money, so to speak.
But if you were to want a really gritty Kemmer, there are some dogs out there that act like catchdogs. I've had a couple like that over the years and sent them on down the road to someone else's house.
Again, I will never say my Kemmers can out hunt another mans dogs, regardless of breeding, they are just the dogs that I choose to own, feed, and hunt behind.
If I can ever help you locate a well bred dog in your area, please let me know. If not, good luck and good hunting.
