Got a question for hog hunters.

1/4 plot,1/4 mtn cur, X 1/2 treeing walker.
How yall think these pups will turn out. Both parents are finished, jam up dogs, ones silent, ones open.

I would think they d be kinda slow but decent noses with the treeing walker. Mouthy on track more than likely. Guess it depends on what exactly mnt cur is in em

If both parents are good then pups have a chance to be good. I run mostly cur/hound crosses and have had good luck with them. Personally I prefer the 3/4 cur by 1/4 hound because it gives a better chance of a silent running dog, but with a little time and patience (and know how) you can get most dogs, including hounds, to run silent until they are looking at the game. I'd give them a try and see how they do.

Good Luck

Bill

The mtn cur is silent, we bred em to control barkin on track a lil. I don't mind em barkin on track if they are running to catch..

let us know how they turn out, but I'll bet they work for you if you like the parents.

Sure will, I hope so. They are bred right, but they have to have the mentality.

The mtn cur is silent, why do u think they would be slow, the mtn cur gets ahead of the walker sometimes, they catch up quick. Ive seen curs on hogs that would come across before the walker...... but not every case, these dogs are gone be bred for running long runs if he wont stop... theyre gone be very gritty, but not rcds.

I ve always thought that the treeing walkers are typically slower then the curs so I was saying if that mountain cut was fast you d probably be alright just depends who they come out hunting like

The treeing walker is very fast. So is cur . So I don't think we have anything to worry about other than people stealin em. and hog cut in em down.

This is just my opinion but seems like your going to be getting ying and ying instead of ying and yang, I don't know the dogs but from my experiences it looks like your expecting silent mouth dogs that are 3/4 hound and you said that these dogs were bred to be gritty but will stick with a runner, wouldn't you think the more grit they have at the bay the more bays their going to break, creating longer races, just putting my two cents in is all...

That is a good recipe for success if the dogs are good representations of their breeds.

How have they turned out?
