The big pigs have really been moving this week. I went out on a early hunt at the home place. I got out to my north pasture before dark and killed the truck about 300 yds. down wind of a good pig trail. I put down a close range cold nosed dog and waited for dark. Well Cat (Catahoula x Plott) did not wind any hogs so after sitting for an hour I started to ease my way around the pasture into the wing. Cat got a little piggy and I put down Smoke (Catahoula x Cur) and they sorted out a track that ran into a haygrazer patch and then a race to the canyon a mile away, they got that pig stoped twice but could not hold him and I called them off the track and headed back the the Haygrazer patch. I left those two dogs down and kept driving into the wind. Cat got piggy and put her nose to the ground and was off on a track, Smokie was close behind, I turned out Mable for a little more help and I heard Cat lock down with her machine gun chop, Smokie and Mable were soon there and they were bayed real solid. I was expecting this hog to break so I stayed at the truck and waited for a few min. They were staying put so I un loaded Jasper and my young Dogo Adora and off we went. I stoped to listen again and they were still baying in the same spot so I sent Jasper from 200 yds out and kept going with Adore on the lead. I stoped to listen for a squeal and was distressed to here no squeal and no grunting and the 3 bay dogs were still baying, that could only mean one thing, big hog. As I got close I could see the big spotted boar that I have been chasing for the last 2 years. He was not making a sound. He was just plowing back and forth through a Mesquite trying to break Jasper off. That was not going to happen, and I sent in Adora to lock on to her first big hog. She jumped right in the fray and locked on the other ear and gave Jasper some help. I grabed a leg and helped get him clear of the tree and stuck him. I do not know what he weighed but both those catch dog weigh 90lbs. He was a big one to handle hunting by myself. Jasper had a small nick on a leg and Mable got a cut ear. Good hunt on a lovely West Texas night.
