five minute hunt

I finally got a chance to take the dogs out for the first time in almost 4 months. I was a little worried that they might be a little chain sour and might be tempted to trash, especially as there were almost 100 deer last night on the 27 acre field that I was going to take them to first. However, as soon as I put them down, they took off and had the hog stopped before he got out of the field. I was back at the house within 10 minutes of when I left, and half of that time was spent reloading the dogs and loading up the hog. It took longer to collar the dogs than the hunt lasted. The hog wasn’t too big, but he was pretty rowdy, and he knew how to use his cutters, two of the dogs got nicked and one was cut into his thoracic cavity. I forgot to take the camera with me, but here are some pics I took after I got back to the house.

Ya know how it is, these outfit's dont want to crank it up until they say the rains gonna fall, been workin my ass off. Been gettin out alittle, young dogs are doin great, been doin more then I thought they would. As far as the move, well I guess I dont have the ability to learn spanish so they passed me up. Oh well!!! Works been boomin on these oil rigs and outfits, gonna have to buy a new welder here before long, wearrin the one I have out, I guess I'll take it while it's here, once the ran starts up heavy, should be able to get some good solid huntin in, it's bad enough right now I'm lettin buddys hunt some of the younger dogs, but at least there gettin out. I have these two real young dogs that have all the makeins of great hog dogs, hope I can get'em out this spring, and get'em rollin. But the bear dont seem to want to tree this year and the ones that do stop fight like hell on the ground, but so far I've ran 11 and treed 5 with a bunch of 2 year olds so I'm happy, two of'em are really shinein, startin bear from truck to tree, they still 2 year olds but doin great about7 out of 10 are bear, the others I dont really know, but they still young, most of it's me I just havent put'em out enough to really clean'em up. Looks like you've been doin alright though. Hows the dog that took the pop in the chest? I had a near miss a few weeks ago, got one stoped up in the thicket dogs faired pretty good at te end, but it sounded like they were all gonna bite the bullet for a few min, but they all got out with minor cuts and bumps, my Jake dog has alittle extra hitch in his gettyup, took a good swat on the ass, but he'll be fine. Have a good one and good huntin to ya.

TRC,

The way they are drilling wells and laying pipeline around here I suspect a good welder could find something to do around here if it rains you out there. A while back they were so hard up for welders that they called me, but its been about 20 years since I was certified and I just didn't feel like going to all the trouble of doing it again.

Danny, the dog that got popped in the chest, is doing fine, in fact he was in on this hog. I'm hoping to start getting the dog out more, only had them out the once this fall. I should start having more time after the kids elk hunt, which ends the fifth of November.

Take care.
