joe It really depends on what regoin you will be visiting. The eastern half is good but can be really spotty If you will be along the yellowstone anywhere east of billings you should find pretty good populations.

i am going out to pick up a pup between bozeman and billings and just thought as long as i was out there i would maybe try pheasant hunting there. is there any public lands to hunt that they have set up for pheasants or any maps that i could get? i thought maybe there was some maps on the internet but i can't find them.

thanks for the info.

best bet is to go to the fish and game office in billings or bozeman and get a BMA book. it gives every block management ranch or farm in the state. state land is ok, but other than forest service they pretty much come as sections at a time, and it seems to be hit or miss with the birds. north western mt like up by medicine lake/ plentywood area has some of the best pheasant hunting in the world. south of billings however has a decent amount of pheasant, partridge and grouse also, but nothin like up north.
