Off range Oryx hunt in NM

Postby Bticked » Sun May 23, 2010 11:11 pm

I got drawn for the off range hunt this year. Has anyone been seeing any animals and where? I was planning on heading south of Bingham towards the missile range. Anybody got any good input for me?

I know that country real well and will be going out through there from time to time if you need any help let me know.. Those Oryx come and go but you should be able to find one.. how long does your hunt last?
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

The hunt lasts the whole month of July so plenty of weekends to look around. So I guess just drive the roads and hike up on hills and glass? Ive seen em cross over there just east of Bingham so I should be able to find one huh? That sounds promising. I sure hope so, my freezer is awfully low! Is there area Im thinking about a good choice? Thanks for the help I really appreciate it from everyone.

Off range is pretty tuff hunting now. Not to many living off range anymore. The best thing to do is look for fresh tracks leaving the range. Then get your walk on. West border is probably a little better than the north. More oryx cross that fence. But ive seen alot on the north and border too. Good Luck and shoot straight

Thanks to all. The hunt is coming up quick and Ive gotten some good tips from you folks. Mike, Ill get a map for that area too and keep more options open. I hope we get lucky and find a couple. I got me a rifle just for Oryx when I got drawn for the returning Iraq veterans hunt and shot it at 425 yards. Better make sure its still sighted in. Hope to see you all out there!

Ryan,
If you don't get anywhere soon enough on the hunt, go to the Fite Ranch east of San Antonio and talk to Dewey. If that doesn't work, call me.

When in doubt, ask someone that knows, not just claims to know.
