Re: KNIVES?
My daily carry knife is a Kershaw with the instant opening blade. But for skinning, capeing and fleshing I started using the Havalon knives a few years ago and nothing beats them. I just got back from Alaska where we skinned and fleshed 11 bears and all I used was the Havalon knife. Several of us had them up there and they worked great. I would suggest using the heavier duty blades as they will break if you put a side load on them. But if you like a surgically sharp blade like I do, then they are hard to beat.

Re: KNIVES?
we were skinning a bear one time ,and a guide here handed me a surgical knife with changeable blades that thing was unbelievable never changed the blade it was still sharper than any knife id seen after we skinned the bear .it was sharp enough that it made me nervous using it .one slip would wreck your day.some people like great big knives .the smaller types ive found are what i like for game skinning .

Re: KNIVES?
I just ordered one of them havalons, I have always used Old timers or uncle henrys but the new ones are crap. they chnged something in the steel and it is hard to get to them sharp enough to shave the hair on your arm any more I realy liked the ( old ) old timers with the high carbon steel you could really put an edge on them. I would buy a case of them if I knew where to get them.

X2 Dean. I carry a havalon for all my primary skinning and tubing I can't believe how sharp they stay.
