I was out coonhunting lastnight and found an absloute monster shed. Easily a 150 inch deer, giant main frame 8point with a split G2 and 13inch tines. My question is how do I set up on him for this deer season. I found the shed in a small horeshoe shaped timed and the big buck is not living there there is another small timber to the north and two other big timbers to the south and east. This shed is jus to big not to try and forget about.

You need to find his rubs and scrapes and determine where the primary breeding scrape or hub scrape was located last fall. Then circle it, probably downwind and find the bedding area he used when he was monitoring it. Set up between the bedding area and the primary scrape, as close to the bedding area as possible without spooking him, because I suspect he is mostly nocturnal, due to hunting pressure at that time. The early bird gets the worm, so if you can determine his core area and then his prime bedding area within it, you can set up on him before the rut starts and he will not be traveling as far and randomly at that time. Also, about mid October he will go into the pre-rut phase. He will be rubbing and making small scrapes, no does will be receptive, he will start to expose himself more in the daylight hours and his travels will be more restrained and concentrated in one area. NOSE,NOSE,NOSE...wear rubber hip boots while scouting and do not ever let him find out you are patterning him or else he will probably become totally nocturnal and become unkillable. A mature whitetail buck in heavily hunted country is the smartest biggame animal on planet earth. Happy Scouting!
