have a greyhound mix bought just for that. he tries hard but his runup is too slow to catch them since they won't get more than 50 yds from the thick crap in the pocosins. if we could get 200 yds of open running he could catch them.

ya i just love the sport to DEATH,theres nothing like it.it gets your adrenaline pumping so hard.hearing the brush crack,and seeing that monster jump out of the brush,and BOOOM!(maybe one or 2 more)

They use dogs in Ireland to run stag with. I personally have never done it. People that come to hunt hire a guide that provides hounds and will take you on a hunt.
As with the fox, mink and hare hunting, stag hunting is under attack in Ireland by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports. Hounding started in Ireland back in the days of the Celts and the hound is a legendary Celtic symbol aswell as the stag. It is a shame to see that over 1,000 years of history and tradition are being lost due to the animal rights groups. Here are some hound and bird dog hunting links for Ireland aswell as a news story.
