nice bulls there but with Oregon point system as far as I can tell it will take 10+ years to draw a tag.

My girlfriend has been putting in for that tag for 13 years and still didnt draw it. This next year she should get it. I didnt see enough spikes this year to warrant me to put in for the spike tag ever again. With that being said I am going to put in for it this next year so she and I can hunt together. In 4 days we saw probably 150 elk and not 1 was a bull. If you are going to save your points for a big bull you might as well wait a few years and get the Wenaha Unit. Thats just my opinion though.

I'd suggest you spend time in a unit, scout and know the land before you go and put in for a unit and raise the point system like every other person from the valley.

i planned on puting the bull tag first choice and spike tag second so i could learn the unit while spike hunting before i draw the tag.

by the time you get the tag you will know the unit like the back of your hand. my buddy has 10 points and the percentage tag book says he has 5 years left before he is guarenteed the tag. with point creep i bet its 10 years before you get it. unless you luck out and get in the 25% pool on the random draw. sorry but thats the way oregon works. and wenaha says 20+ years befor he would get it. too many people with more points than you and not enough tags.

Well im not huge on Mt. Emily myself but I've seen alot big of bulls and bucks from that country. Its becoming the new Wenaha unit. Most of the elk migrate to the umatilla river basins to winter there are from wenaha or starkey areas. I myself will be happy with my easy draw units and kill a buck and a elk every year.

If you are a rifle hunter and not scared of going deep, check out mill cr watershed. Its in the walla walla unit and its the hunt right "under" the big three. I'm at 10pts and still several years from drawing any of the big three. I'm debating on mill cr or holding out for one of the big three since I'm right in the "chase pool". Everything is within reach but creep keeps killin me.

i hunted the watershed a couple years ago and have helped a few people who drew since then. the only problem is the size of the unit. pretty small...although with how steep it is you could hunt the whole season and not cover the same ground twice...unless there is alot of snow then the concentrated elk with the size of the unit can become a problem. lots of big bulls in there but you better eat your wheaties to get 1 out.

if u hunt the tioga unit for rifle im sorry. that could be a great tag if they would limit the number of tags they give out. but if u got six points i would put in for powers big bull tag if u live around here
