Mark, which season did you get? Also are you familiar with the unit? My great aunt got the tag last year for rifle. There are quiet a few areas to the unit that produce good bulls.

Wow! I thought I had it bad here in Arizona, you guys have a pretty rough go of it too. Take care, Willy

Unreal

Its the big bull tag. I spent alot of time in the wenaha hunting bear and cats (pre ban) I have never hunted it for elk but know a little about where they hang. I have some friends from that country that know where to look but any info on big bulls will be greatly appreciated. My goal is to kill a 375+ bull before i die. Been to NM twice and AZ once and havnt got it done yet. Saw one in NM but couldnt get close enough for the muzzle loader so i keep tryn.

I am going to assume its the rifle tag and not archery. Most of the "big boys" are near Troy but you can find them closer to where I live as well. Alot of the elk near where I live migrate to the umatilla wilderness to winter which is in the Mt. Emily unit. (Which basicly in rifle season, you want to be in the migration paths of the elk) most of the elk around lookout mtn area (which is closer to Troy) migrate to the grande ronde river and wenaha river systems to winter. Hope this helps.

It is pretty tough to draw tags in Mt. too. Another year without a moose tag. been putting in sense I was 12 years old. Cannot complain to much though I drew a rocky Mountain big Horn Sheep permit about 18 years ago out of Libby Mt. Shot a 42 and a half inch ram scored about 190 points. That was about 3 years before they had there big die off in that area.
