Foxtail

Postby walker83 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:21 am

A little off topic here but I figure this is the group to ask.

I have a pasture that has just become over run with foxtail and I would like to get ahead of it and reclaim the area. Is roundup and then a burn the best option? roundup and plant with some sort of pasture grass? what do you guys recommend?

Thanks,

Jordan

Don't know about roundup? We always just burned it off, and try not to let it get too wet.

A burn would be better. Grass does good after a burn. Roundup works and so does a burn, the problem with both of those short term solutions is everything including the weeds eventually comes back. Its just a race to the top all over again. I would burn it, then as the grass and weeds come back, treat the foxtail (while its young) with the proper chemical herbiside to let the grass take back over.

There's really a bunch of options you have, depending on what kinda money you want or dont want to stick into it and how "clean" of an out come you want.
