6 year old Buckskin Pony for sale

Postby Lost River » Wed Jul 27, 2011 3:15 am

The cowboy in the pic is my 8 year old son Duncan. The mount is Bucky, a 6 year old pony/mini cross of some sort that they got last spring half a$$ed wild out of a friends field. The people had bred her to a mini stud and we also have the baby that the kids use for 4-H. Bucky has done obstacles and jumping with my oldest daughter for 4-H last year and done well with that.
Dunc wanted a project to make a little money to either buy his own Astro and collar to follow his hound pups when we are hunting or saving up to buy a hunting rifle. His sisters helped him get her saddled and started after school got out and he has been riding her 4-5 day a week since the end of May. About two weeks ago he quit riding her in the halter and put a snaffle in her mouth.
Big sister Adeline has been providing guideance and I am pretty suprised at how far they have come. As you an imagine this little thing isn't neck reining but she plow reins and follows her nose pretty darn good. He only had one rodeo run off and that was about week two, but knock on wood she has been really good. You can see in the picks he has worker on her to be a trail type pony and she has been rode through piles of chickens, dogs, cats, tractors and will come in the house given the chance. If you leave the barn open she will be in it. You can see he is a real cowboy and rides with spurs, she knows what they are about and isn't afraid of them or overreacts, but will listen when he means biz.
Most of the time she is left loose with the other two minis and is very easy to catch now. They often are just left lose to hang in the yard and eat all the wife's flowers or bust into the pig feed in the barn. She has been pastured and around big horses and isn't bothered by them as long as they don't pick on her. We have had no bucking issues, kicking issues or biting issues with her at all...which seems to be a suprise from what I had heard about pony and minis.
Bucky is a pretty little thing that would make a little guy or gal happy with some more finish work. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the pony you throw a 4 or 5 year old kid on a hope for the best. But Dunc just started riding this spring so it doesn't take a seasoned buckaroo to sit on her. We would keep her but he has a full sized horse that he rides and with a 11 horses we need to thin down the herd. He is asking $500, but I think he may have some wiggle room on that price as I know the boss ranch foreman (mom) and she said lets get some horses sold. :wink:Thanks, Casey 406-546-1878
PS We are in western Montana and I get down to Utah on occasion and into Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington, might be able to work on transportation. School doesn't start until the end of August and I bet you could talk the little man into riding her 4-5 days a week until then.
PSS He is training the blue pup for Jeff Allen, if you have any pups you need started on ditch tigers or alley puma he is your man.
