Required tack?

Postby Bearkiller » Sat Jul 30, 2011 10:09 pm

What as far as horse gear goes would you guys say is absolutely mandatory?Besides the obvious. What kind of saddle should I be looking at for trails? No roping or cow chasing.

If I wasn't going to have someone build me one, for hunting and using in the mountains I would buy a McCall Packer. I don't even know if they make that saddle anymore, but they have one called a pendleton that is similar. Or they have a saddle they call their trail saddle I think they call the mile maker.

A Tucker they have several styles to choose from but any Tucker with the gel seat is worth every penny they cost.

How often do you plan to use it? What kind of weather and terrain ? How much is weight a factor there are many considerations. Everyone has preference so maybe sharing some of your thoughts and wants needs price range would help narrow the information to specifics and get more opinions
