Roy, don't feel bad. That country looks so much alike its deceptive. Its really pretty close as the crow flies from point A to point B. However, as you know there are no straight lines in that country and a crow flying could cover the distance faster than I could in a Ford or Chevy!
I just typed driving directions into the computer from Riggins to Salmon. The results were 332 miles and over 6 hours, and you have to drive into Montana. The other option is to drive down into Garden Valley and get there through Stanley and Challis (probably close to the same drive time and miles).
Yeah no straight lines in that country, I guess thats why they call it "The River of No Return"
