think about this if you go way back and look you can find some pics in small town museums and books of some heavier built ropin horses in different areas of the country and for the most part the traveling horses where the tall lanky built horses similar to our current appendix horses except they obviously had to have some pretty sound running gear and had those long heads on them like you see in European/draft. I have ridden some exceptionally tuff QH'S . The thing you have to look for are the thick built horses that have the bone to handle it. some strains of poco bueno are starting to get to light for my taste but you can still find the good ones. They are some of the easiest horses to be around and work from .it doesn't take much to build a good working partnership with them. I personally agree that working horses need the bone to handle it and little oo hooves won't handle that much power up top for long. my draft x wears 2's in back and a 3 in front and I've never had a issue with her hooves. a riding horse wearing 2's or 1's should do all right in the bone department.
