I believe there is one fella that could shed some light on the origins of the Wade tree. Jim and Tom Dorrance both worked on the Marvel Ranch in Battle Mountain, NV. Tom Marvel just happens to be in the cutting world, as Buster Welch attended his 50th Wedding aniversary. (My wife actually got to sit at Buster's table) Another clue might be the fact that Joe Marvel (Tom's son) won the World in Saddle Bronc in 1977. An awful lot of coincidences if you ask me. And if you've ever met Tom, he is not one to toot his own horn. By the way, I ride a Capriola slick fork made in 1977 by Art Holling, back before Capriolas sold their soul.

Mike,
I am with you on selling their soul..Damn Shame!
I am not a big fan of Squaw Titts Whoops! sorry my age is showing bucking rolls. Oh I have had some and still have a set or two hanging in the tack shed but I never liked them much. I had a real nice set made for my wife to put on her custom Wade. She has this Wade all pointed out with Teakle Berry Silver good Vogt. Conchos and I even had the screw heads for the rolls made up with the same. They tarnish up a bit and look nice but still punchy enough to not look dude. Well she got sick of them and said they didn't do her any good and asked me to take them off. She said I don't plan on riding any broncs and if I have one that gets froggy I will just jerk my slicker off the back roll it up tight and tie it across the front low and that works better than bucking rolls anyway. Pretty savvy old gal I would say at times. LOL! Whoops again!

Oxbows and riding boots from Mr. Bond will keep you in the saddle as good as bucking rolls I think. As an old timer named Ray Farmer said many moons ago," Anything that will keep you in the saddle sure as heck will keep you out also". Funny how them old fellas knew how too speak so a guy can understand. We had a horse that about bucked his headstall off this spring while we were receiving, and this fall shipping he barely lifted his head up. Funny how a bunch of miles changes their attitude. The father in law and I ganged up on him all summer, and he's a perfect gentleman now. Anyhow back on topic, the father in law rides a Weatherly, but would like a little more cantle for the rough stuff. The wife also has a slick fork Dave Erricson had made by Caps the year he won the world in the IRA I believe. I picked it up on E-bay of all places out of Oklahoma. The wife rode it once, and I was looking for a new saddle. Funny how that works. Sad thing about Caps. Yak at ya later.

Here I go opening my mouth getting myself in trouble again. For the record, the Capriola name has a long tradition of being one of the premier cowboy outfitters in the country. Paul Bear was a fine man, and along with his wife Mopsy, built a wonderful legacy for their family. Beyond that, I have nothing further to add. Heck, I saw Mopsy in Reno at the futurity just last night, and I would no more want to hurt her than my own grandma.
I did get a little butt chewing last night also from my wife, it was not Buster Welch she sat with, it was Matlock Rose. So it goes to show ya, you can't believe a dam* thing I say.
