New mule/atv/dogbox

Postby Bdog » Sun Dec 06, 2009 2:59 pm

This mule/atv/dogbox has been an all summer project that still needs a few tweeks. I had seen a few mule boxes in the last ten years and decided I wanted one. After many months of trying to find a company or individual to build one I came up empty. So I decided to take on this project, with help of course. I posted on a couple websites and got some good input from several including Wayne Billings and others. I want to thank all those who provided suggestions and a special thanks to my good friend Frank who made this happen. The sad part is he absolutely doesn’t want to build another one.

Thanks again Bruce

Specs: Height 6’ 6” width 7’6”, above cab storage insulated and enough room to put bedroll
Bottom dog box 24”x24” x 7’6” 6 dogs with room, top dog box/storage 22”x24” x 7’6”
Both sides drop as ramps for quad/drive on and off, Floor tongue and grove hardwood, Two big mules or three small ones

Nice set up. How does it get around with a two mules in the back. Are they kind of top heavy when your on the rough roads? Seen lots of guys is SE AZ and SW NM using these set ups

That is very nice. Thanks for posting the pics. Is the round thing on the back in that one picture the mount for the spare tire?
I have been wanting to build something like that in the front of my horse trailer. Put the dog storage in the front of the livestock portion like you did and convert the tack room into a sleeper.

Do you know yet how it drafts on dusty roads? My current trialer plan is on hold until I figure out that portion. The trailer I have now drafts dust in a bad way. If I saddle up before I trailer out, I have to wipe about an 1/8 of an inch of dust off of my saddle when I unload. I dont know if my traler needs more air or less air to releave the problem. And since the dogs are air cooled, I dont want to choke them out with dust. I'd be willing to bet your set up does not have that problem since its not being dragged behind a pickup.

Does anyone have any pics of dog box/ horse trailer setups?
