I have been thinking of getting a mule when I get a place that will keep one. I am wondering what does a good mule go for? I grew up with horses but never mules. is the priceing similair, I think they would go for a bit more? Wanting one that is packable and broke to ride and not green every morning you go to get on, would also like one with some years left on em. Also I have heard they age better then horses, is that true?

I think in general mules do age a bit better. I've been searching a bunch for a mule and to find one that's well broke and not too old you'll pay anywhere from 3k+ with most decent mules being 2k-4' and good one being 4k-7k.....at least that's what I was finding.

Mule prices are holding alot better than horses in general, your higher end horses are still bringing alot. I paid $1500 for my mule as a 3 year old, dead gentle but didn't know a whole lot. Since then I have put thousands of miles on her and I wouldn't sell her for $8,000. Brady is pretty close on the pricing you will find exceptions but he is right there.

I agree with the pricing. Your looking at 2k-4k for a good broke mule. You can find cheaper but you got to willing go through a few before you find a good one. Theres usually a reason when they are cheap

My brother run a big trade stable in Morganton N.C and that is the going price for a good mule 3 to 4 thousand [sound] he had to put up a fence around his barn because people at night would leave good horses tided to his barn,saying here is Joe you can have him.when they shut down that kill market the bottom fell out of horses. but like Paco said good horses will still sell.

Frog : Sad to say but true. From my friends in Maine .NC , Kentucky , N. Dakota and Montana there just is no market for Horses right now. Ky/ Tenn Mules seem to be in the same price rangs $3-$4 K apeice.

Mules are more sure footed than horses and most of the time they will eat a little less. But yes a horse is nearly done at 12 and a Mule is in his prime. The high dollar Mules are usually the ones that will jump a fence.

I agree with the pricing that has been quoted thus far. If you are looking to buy or price a mule check www.luckythreeranch.com and go to the classified section it has quite a few mules for sale. It has been said that once you ride a good mule, compared to a horse, it is like riding a Cadiliac compared to a volkswagon, and I have had horses all of my life, just got a very good mule five years ago and I will agree with this. There is a world of difference between the two. I have seven very good horses and one mule and at this point I haved used this mule on dozens of hunts and have yet to find a fault with her.
My advice is to look and find a good mule, they are costly but well worth it. If they are not trained, shy, don't load, or not good with their feet, stay away from them. Good luck with it.

If you can ride and need a really good mule give me a short note. There is no dickering on this mule he is coming 14 which is the perfect age, knows hounds and is tried and true.

And I get not a dime out of it. I am helping my Doctor sell him because he can't elk hunt any more. This mule is a Caddilac. This 15.2 sorrel John has been around dogs all his life. He is a nice one.
