Maiden voyage for new mule box

Went lion hunting in some sheep range not far from the house, new box worked well and the mules are jumping in and out without to much prodding. Found an old tom track but couldnt get him going as the track was several days old.

Boy that looks great, I still can't believe how well it turned out. Are you unloading them by backing them out or leading them out?

Paco

There is plenty of room to turn one around and jump them out front first. This seems to work better when your over 24 inches off the ground. I reversed my bumber pull and they seem to struggle a bit when backing them out and they cant reach the ground easily.

That is what I thought. I know backing mine out of the stock rack they
don't like that much either. Sweet ride.

That is an awesome setup! I agree that for me at least, I can't get a horse to step down backwards from a height greater than two feet without a rodeo. Here is a picture of my older setup, my new one is better but still doesn't even come close to what you have there, very cool!

Hey bdg that is a great looking rig a couple of questions did you just mount your horse/dog box on a flatbed? and 2 did you build your dog boxes out of steel or wood I assume that the dog boxes are right behind the cab in front of the horse mule compartment I guess one more thing do you have any stability issues with yours I couldn't tell if it is on a single or a dually I have one similiar to yours on a f-450 and even with three mules in it it is very stable.

Yes, it is on a flatbed but all one piece for strength. The boxes are framed with a solid back and expanded metal doors and mule area for lots of air. Single on 3/4 ton with extra leafs and trimben stop replacers. With two mules and mine are not small it gets a little washy with hi winds.

So are you ready to get rid of it yet? How are you liking it now you have had a chance to use it?

Hey Devin

Well I really liked it but found that having two mules and loaded with dogs was a little top heavy for a single wheel 3/4 ton. It had plenty of power but when you got hit by a strong wind it made me uncomfortable. So I picked up a dually one ton and sure made a difference with non of that feeling of the next big wind or blow out ending on its side.
I heard you held onto your Yap pup so how is he doing?

Bruce,
That is very nice. I did hold on to the Yap pup and so far i am glad I did. he is really doing very good for his age. We are just starting our cat season so time will tell. But I think he is going to do good. I will keep you posted on him.
How much do you fiqure you have into building that rack? Thanks, Devin
