Saddle

Last year I sold my best roping horse to a guy up by Farmington that's a saddle maker.. we did some trading and he agreed to make me a saddle. A good friend of mine that I rope with rides one of his saddles, he also made the saddle for one of the members of the world champion ranch rodeo team this past year that's also a good friend of mine, and I ride a saddle that was made by the guy that taught him and I really like it. At first all I wanted was a plain mountain saddle that I could hunt out of, we had a certain dollar amount that we agreed on. When I met with him I could tell he was kind of disappointed that was all I wanted, this guy is an excellent craftsman and artist and takes a lot of pride in his work so I told him "do what you want just personalize it for me .. maybe put a lion track on it or my brand or something". Put a crouper ring, make me some taps. Also I would like a pommel bag and saddle bags that fit that aren't so bulky and are easy on and easy off.... I got it this morning my wife and a buddy surprised me with it... I'll tell you what I can't believe what an artist this guy is ... I'm pretty sure it will be a few years before I follow the hounds off into the puckerbrush riding it.. but I'll start roping in it tonight :P

I'll get the bags and breast collar this coming weekend...

Its on a modified association tree, 4" cantle with 1 1/2" dish in a ground 15" seat. About 1" Cheyenne roll and 15/16's in skirt rigging.. and what they call crooked stirrups (If you haven't ever tried them and your knees ever get sore you should)... The guys name is Steven Harper.

Super nice kack Pard! Old Stevie does good work, he has built me some nice stuff over the years. Wish he was full time again he had a really good shop.

Awwww! just go get a little mountain rash on Brett. LOL! We were trying to make it up thru a set of bluffs this morning with the dogs. Well I cam to a pretty narrow chute and I got off and led old Gus thru there. Well he is sort of narrow but he makes dang sure he leans into a least one rock to put another scratch on my old rig. The one I was riding this morning is a 1920 Heiser A fork single 5/8 rig with full carved Eagle Wing Tapaderos on it. Pretty neat looking old rig with a custom martigale and long horsehair shoe flys old Gus looks pretty punchy with that Garcia Silver Santa Barbara Spade and rawhide romel & reins. Some say aren't you afraid to use that fancy stuff out here in the brush. I said nope that's why I have is to use it. I think the fellow that has been riding with me for awhile thinks I am a little excentric. Everytime I show up I am riding a different horse or a different saddle. Well I have to rotate them and keep them all in service or at least that why I tell my wife I have a tack room plumb full of stuff.

I love good saddle old or new!

Very nice, I wish the old Easter bunny would have surprised me this morning with something like that!!
Cowboyvon that is a work of art no doubt about it. Thanks for sharing I would have a hard time taking it off the saddle stand. I could destroy an anvil.

Very nice! Like the spider web seat and the cat trax! Looks like the guy knows his way around a leather shop!

Brett, I've never seen, or considered spider webs on a saddle. That's a unique as well as a sweet touch. Nice ride!

I have crooked stirrups as well. I really like them. They came with my new saddle. I cant find the ones I have on the website, they are galvanized wrapped wood stirrups. The website is: http://crookedstirrups.com/index.htm

Thanks everyone I'm pretty proud of it.. The spider web was his idea and he has it in other places on the saddle too.. The only thing I asked for was the taps and my brand or a lion track somewhere on it.. his attention to detail is unbelievable.. I'm getting the bags and the breast collar this weekend and I'll try to post some pictures of them.. I wanted the bags to be able to come off and on easily so we'll see what he came up with..
