Our local college has a equine course, once a year the instructor from this course puts on a three day, 8-10 hours per day crash course on shoeing. He teachs from start to finish shoeing your own horse. By no means is this 25ish hours of crash course enough to go out and start making a living at it but I took this 3 day class about 8 years ago and learned a lot. I have been trimming and shoeing my own since. Something you might check into, he spoke of different instructors in different areas providing the same opportunity. It was very educational for me, something you might check into.

Yah, they do the same thing in my area. The farrier brought the class to my place to show em how to shoe a Mule. Check the local Community Colleges.

I think Utah State has an equine science division and may do farrier work/training? Also, there's a place in Logandale (about an hour south of St. George) that has been promoting a school they're doing. It's not real close but may be an option!
