Ok so I have seen and heard a lot of the "don;t buy a missouri mule" why is that? Is it just an ongoing joke in the equine world or is there something behind it?

don't really no what your talking about. i have had mules for a fair part of my life and not heard anything like that. might be some kind of saying people use as a joke. but i would think you would be in the middle of some pretty good mule country. have known people that go to that whole part of the country and pick up 10 15 at a time and train them to sell. i think if ya look around alittle you wll be very happy with what ya find. good luck

I would say mules from just about anyplace are still just mules. LOL!

I have rode a bunch of Missouri mules, most of them have been fine riding mules

I had a fella tell me one time that his grandfather raised Missouri Arkansas mules. Curious, I asked him what kind of mule that was. He said that they were "brown ones". I had no comment.

Missouri was a big producer of mules when they were used for farming and draft work. They were more draft like animals. If the mares were not good enough to be bred to a stallion they bred them to a Jack. The mules that came out may not of had the best disposition that they do now bred for riding mules out of top mares and jacks. Dewey
