I got hound hunting fever a few years ago when I got invited to bear hunt with some friends friends. We didn't tree anything but those few days rigging the dogs was some of the most fun I've had hunting. I guessed I talked about it enough, that my wife surprised me with a little Walker pup about 6-7 months ago and it has been quite a challenge training her to do something I'm still trying to learn! She's slow going but is starting to figure out what we're doing walking around in the woods.
If anyone has any recommendations as far as local clubs (I'm smack in the middle of the state, small town outside of Turlock if you know where that is) or any pointers, reference materials or any other help would be greatly appreciated.
See ya in the woods!

Hi Hootie,
Welcome to the Boards, I hope you find all your answers and directions from this site as I have.
I know United Houndsmen of California Inc meet in Sacramento and they have a pond in Galt where they have their field trials...
Look under clubs in california here on the site and it will show you all the scheduled field trials and events throughout the Northern CA area.
Also, for starters, come join us this month for the California Houndsmen for Conservation Meeting this September 11th in Sacramento...
You can meet a few folks and hopefully, get a few answers...
Hope to see you there, good luck

Re: New Houndsman in CA
Thanks for the quick responses guys!
Bulfytr~ I'm in Hilmar, nothing but dairies and tomato trucks, especially this time of year lol and you were right about Modesto Houndsmen, I already got a pm from one of their guys.
Yeager~ I'm gonna have to try to run up to Sac, I'll check CHCs website for the details.
I'm really glad I found this site and signed up!

Hey! I'm up in Mt Shasta just getting into this game too. Just got a little pup and am enjoying his company. I am convinced all he is good for is eating poop and being stubborn but we are making it work.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Welcome aboard.
In your area I would recommend Modesto Houndsmen and United Houndsmen. Joining CHC is also a must.
If you have registered dogs, don't forget Nor-Cal Treehound Association. We hold UKC/AKC events just south of Oroville. We also have some open events as well.
