New from MN

Hey there folks, my name is Joel. I heard of this forum and couldnt pass it up. Ever since I was a kid I wanted hounds but I never knew anyone with them or enough about them. I started field trial training retrievers and now I'm ready for a change. I'm greatly interested in hounds and would like to gather a little info about the dogs themselves and some of the opportunities to USE them! Here in MN, we have some great Nat Forests up in the far North, but most land in the two river valley's and anything in the bottom two thirds of the state is broken up into smaller tracts of land with private ownership. We also can't run bear in MN! Pffff....gonna hafta change that!

Anyhow, I'll ask a lot of questions so please have patience with a bird dogger who wants hounds!

Not sure what kind of hounds you are interested in running hounds or tree dogs Have you checked out the mn Trail hounds assoc. they are into running hounds There must be some kind of orginazation for coon hunters also but not sure what it is. The game fair in anoka ususally has some tables with the different breeds of coon dogs and the trail hounds assoc usually has a table there as well you might find some info on someone in your area to run with. good luck
