Oregon Lady grew up with hounds

Postby LoraleeP » Wed Nov 30, 2011 2:29 am

Hi I was born and raised around hounds and hunting. I am a 6th generation houndsmen. I have 2 teenage daughters that have also been raised around hounds. Walkers have been the breed of choice in my family (though my first husband was an avid Plott -man). One of the great things about Oregon is the variety of game available to hunt. Once bear and cougar hunting became illegal in Oregon I did send my hounds one at a time to my brother in Idaho to get some big game under them. I am currently not hunting my dogs. i only have a male and a female, they are starting to get pretty old now. Some of my favorite memories growing up are the times I spent with my dad hunting. He has passed away now and I still miss him like crazy, especially when I am out wtih the hounds. I have always like the House's Lipper bloodlines and Rock River Banjo. I was fortunate to share Rock River Banjo II with my brother. I got a female from Walker's Walkers as a wedding gift because I wanted to get back some of that House's bloodlines that I liked. I have beautiful Walkers that are cat footed, long eared, bawl mouth, game catching, loyal family friends. It has been a pleasure to grow up with these bloodlines and raise my own children with them. Now I am the office manager for a pole barn building supply company and raising goats and chasing after my kids in sports.

Needless to say my dad and brother were not real proud, they thought I was raised better than that! lol The good news is that I have 2 beautiful teenage daughters from the marriage that can out-hunt, shoot, ride, drive, etc. any boy their age. They got the best of both of us! (When they were real young I would put a tracking collar on them and hook a leash to their belt loops and take them in the woods. )

lol My oldest son thought that he couldnt make it clear to the bear tree, which I tried to talk him out of in the first place because it was a mile and a half from the truck, a long way for a chubby 9 year old, so when he couldnt go any farther I sat him in the shade and marked him on the gps as a treestand. lol
