this is my opinion if you want to run rabbits run rabbits if you want to run cats run cats i would not start the dog on rabbits then try and swap them over they run the same areas to me it makes more sense to start them on coon or something, that for the most part they will not run into while cat hunting like i said this is just my opinion i'm sure it can be done i just wouldn't jmo best of luck Larry

that does make sense.. Thanks! The gent who got me interested in cat hunting gets his hounds started on rabbits then turns them on cats.. When on a cat ,they leave rabbits alone. He runs plott/beagle crosses. The plott male is from a gent named Lanny. Was told he has the best cats dogs around. I have heard that beaglers are loosing dogs up around moxie. some say its a big bobcat and others say its a lion.. I have seen them and their tracks.. thanks for the input!!

it must be Paul Laney and your right he has some good dogs that can get it done but as much as he cat hunts i would be surprised if he had to start one on rabbits instead of running along with his trained hounds i'll hafta ask him next time i see him best of luck Larry

Paul does not start his with rabbits.. a guy in know of uses his male to breed his beagles to get the cross.. Then he starts them on rabbits.. i have a option of getting a 4 yr male plott now... thinking of doing it.... wuts a cup more of dog food a day?? LOL
