Hi my name is Jarrett Daves. Im from southwest Colorado. It seems as if I spend more green on this hobby than any other by far....But the rewards are so much greater than any ive had! I was hooked from the first cat i seen in a tree! The biggest regret ive had has been that i didnt start sooner! i wasnt raised around this in my immediant family but had some relatives that ran dogs, but was a few years before my time!I had a relative that went into a rugged canyon to retrieve some dogs left out overnight and never returned alive! My family doesnt mind much wether i do it or not but probably cant call my dogs by name! most of this comes from the past tradgedy! he was not killed by a lion like most people would assume..He slipped and fell in a spot where standing back up and shaking it off was not an option! Anyways i love this and hope my last days are with my dogs..i have no family of my own therfore they are my family!Im looking forward to chating with many of you!I run bear, bobcat, and lion.i enjoy cat the best since colorado decided that when the bears kill our dogs it somehow affected the bears more than our prize dogs!!!Whatever! Anyhow my name on here is open ears. I found out after a ruff first year that you can learn more when your mouth is closed and ears open.Ive learn alot lately from older houndsman such as van johnson.many others have passed good information on to me such as Brad Evans,BrianLions, dale Mcquillan, and brandon Maxwell.
Ive also enjoyed info ive thought on from Dennis Igram,Jeff allen,Mike leaonard and the now gone Ben lily and dale Cameron. im looking forward to sharing stories and thoughts with many, everyone seems to have a different thought than the next but if you find success in these things and they work for you then stick with it!I dont get on this for a few days at a time for the sake of hunting and work so be patient with me!Thanks and good hunting!

Jarret, I heard about that bad fall. I had no idea that he was related to you. That is some of the nastiest country I have ever run in. You be careful out there. If you ever need any help...you be damn sure to call me... anytime.

Welcome to the board and the world of hounds Jarrett. As you have learned, this sport is a rugged one with it's highs and lows, but the journey and rewards are worth it if they move or lift a man's spirits. So was that relative of yours killed about ten years ago down on the Delores River? There was an accidnt I remember on the last weekend of the lion season (late March) that I heard about. The state of Utah did a work share deal with the Colorado Oil and Gas group and we did a loop with them down through Durango and Cortez. One of the workers in that old Shell CO2 field told me about it when the conversation changed to lion hunting. Sorry to hear about the accident.
Post up on your adventures and don't be afraid to share..........

LionTracker and Ike-His name was bobby joe daves, he was 34. he was my grandpas brother but was a little younger than my dad.He is Dallas or (LionhunterDaves') uncle. I grew up around him when he farmed around my dad.Never hunted with him.It was near the dolores river in Bell Canyon.I believed he had a cat caught or the dogs could have been ledged up.I think he returned the next day to retrieve the dogs. his daughter and a friend dropped him off at point a and would pick him up at point B.from what they gathered he wasnt far from point a when he slipped above a snow chute leading to the ledges below. they believe the impact from the rock that he hit on the back of the head when he first slipped was the end. That night garnette Weesse went in search and was close but never discovered him.shots were fired, none were returned! My dad and others went on snowmobile and another went on foot! Search and rescue flown a chopper in.The one on foot tracked him out, found were he slipped and even slipped himself! When he approached the ledge he slid out on the only tree around and found him and the dogs below. The chopper dropped the manbasket up top at the familys feet!

It's about time you got your registration on here finished. I was beginning to wonder if you forgot about it.

Sorry to hear of the lose to your family, but as I said, lion hunting is a rugged sport that often happens in the toughest of places--one slip, loose rock or patch of ice can send a person to their death. As I've aged, I've become more careful of those places after once slipping and squirting off a ledge high enough to jam my back and knock the wind from my lungs. Had that drop been a little higher my lion hunting days may well have ended there.
And thanks for the kind words on the video, a guy does what he can with the footage he has and hopes somebody enjoys it.........
best regards,
Dennis Ingram
