I'm from the USA, TN in the deep south, were we seem to be the last people here that believe in guns and freedom. I joined this site because I'm very interested in how members breed their dogs. I think dogs should be functional and have always believed in function over form for a dog's respective Job. I'm a firm believer that dogs breed just for looks will eventually lead to destruction. Nothing like hunting something with a dog, for some reason every since I was a child something about working together with a dog has always excited me. Had some stubborn Terriers and Spitz type dogs, but boy let us be hunting coon or gopher rats and boy could they be cooperative. I currently only have one dog a bandog of sorts we call it a "Donovan Pinscher". Wanks for your time look forward to meeting you guys...WE do protection sports put I plan to test him on a pigs sometimes this year. Anyways thanks for reading, hope to get to know the guys on the forum.
PS. (To Admin: I used my personal Email because I don't have a ISP email, I use a mobile modem since I live so far into the country and the price of DSL is prohibitive. But I did use my personal Email and name.)

Hey guy welcome to the site,
One thing I have always enjoyed about houndmen( or dog men period) is their vast degree of opinions on dogs. Whether it be how to feed em, train em, buy em or breed em. Get ten houndsmen on a topic and you might get ten opinions, but each has a basis for the way he thinks. He either experienced it, had a buddy who experienced it, read about it, or heard about it.
The bottom line for breeding dogs is trying to reproduce the qualities that fit the handler. Many of us have a preference of color (or breed) but have had to use a "brand X dog " to train our preference beginners. I remember buying a dog that was so ugly I hid it from my buddies for weeks, but he was a broke hound and could get the job done. I trained several young dogs with him, but I would never have bred to him, because I didn't like the way he looked.
I have hitch-hiked on the phylosophy of breeding the best to best, but that also includes looks. I prefer the Black & Tan,(High Tan) so If I intend to stay within that confine, I must obtain access to a performing line that looks like I want them to.
My current hounds are more black than I prefer, but their actions as puppies dictated my choice. I have been laid up with a hip problem these dogs entire life (two year old) and I have never attempted starting dogs at this age. Infact, formally I would not have even tried, but I know what bloodline they are carrying and I am going to see if my breeding phylosophy will override my training window mindset.
May the Lord keep you safe in your ventures,

Yep that's true... men who hunt with dogs know their stuff. I have a lot of respect for hounds, got a soft spot for those Walkers they're real tough dogs. Just for the record I ain't saying you should turn a blind eye to looks... But I just don't believe in conformation dogs, simply because you don't know anything about a dog until you work with it. But I agree nothing like a good looking dog, that can work.
