Hello from NE California!

Thought since I was new here I'd say 'hello' and introdue myself.... I'm a country girl who has been hunting with hounds since I was about 6-- there's nothin' like it! Killed my first bear as soon as I could, at the age of 12. There is something addicting about watching these dogs work. I currently have eight 3-week old puppies on the ground... and as most of you already know by now, it's aggravating not knowing if they'll have a future with hunting bears in this state. Because of them, and the great hunting dogs I've known throughout my life, I have been fighting SB 1221 will all my might! It's been great to see so many hunters come together to fight this-- keep up the good work! And I'm glad to have found this site... :)

No, never have. Only ever been around Susanville on our way to Reno. We do hunt out in the Adin area a lot later in the season. Ever hunt there... or here? How has the huntin' been in your area? Right now, I'm just hopeful that bear hunting with our dogs will continue to be a right we can enjoy freely... Cause hunting tree squirrels isn't going to be nearly as fun. Lol. What kind of hunting do you do and what kind of dogs do you have?

I have a little of everything. 1/2 walker 1/2 running dog, 1/2 white hollow 1/2leopard, a matthes and a dollins. Ill run Bear mostly then bobs and fox. If worse comes to worse ill be a fox hunting SOB next year. They will never keep my hounds out of the woods. I don't go much up there. The farthest ill go that way is usually in x4. Correct me if i am wrong but isn't the other side of adin out of the dog controll zone?

Exactly-- these dogs HAVE to hunt, period! Ha! We hunt X4 quite a bit, up and around the Hat Creek area. No, you're right-- it's East of Adin where you can't hunt with dogs. But there's some prime bobcat hunting S. of Adin. And if you've never been near Ash Creek... well, it's a beautiful area! Grew up camping out there; would always bring my horses and ride all over!

Welcome to the site!

Always nice to see more women enjoying the sport! Feel odd sometimes being surrounded by men LOL. Not that I complain.. ha!

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, us women are certainly the minority. But tougher! And lol-- I'm gonna share with you a picture from last bear season... just look what having a woman around does to the mood of her fellow hunters:

Just the guys...

And add a girl....

(However, the guy on the far left was a hard one to crack... lol)

The man on MY right would be my dad... a good friend of his got him into hunting with dogs (he had a pack of cur dogs, which was all we used up until about 5 years ago) way back when and our family has never been the same. 8)

That is pretty funny. I can see why they are smiling though. I stay around whirley so i don't go as far up as you. I have thought about going up to harvey but the refuge scares me away with it being so close.

Hahaha those are great! Even got my Husband to chuckle a little.

If only I could get a before and after picture with the band of hooligans I run with, I'd be set for life on the blackmail department! Haha.

The person who got me started(who is now one of my closest friends)took me bear hunting one year, that was the most physically exhausting, and the most fun I'd ever had! I knew from then on out I wanted to spend my time running dogs. Convincing my Husband was the hard part, but one night of coon hunting cured that! Listening to her dogs was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. Its been 3 years now, and we don't plan on stopping anytime soon. :)

Glad you guys enjoyd the pictures!

Haha! Yeah, Cali does suck! Too bad the governement is so corrupt, because this state has some of the most beautiful and rugged country I've ever seen! And excellent hunting! *Could* be great living here. I lived in Oregon for a several years and I did love everything about it up there... except that hunting with hounds wasn't legal for bear or cougars. But at least Oregon has friendlier gun laws...

That's too funny that you also got your hubby into running with dogs, YSHBHounds! My husband has been a hunter his whole life but was stricly for birds and deer. Never had any desire to hunt bear. And the first time he had dinner with my family was a bit intimidated by the fact that this lil' gal he was interested in killed the huge bear on the wall. Lol. But the first time he went bear hunting with us and got to watch those dogs doing what they love best, and hearing them on their chase-- yep, that was it! Hooked for life! :D
