Hog hunter from central coast of california

Postby bigboarstopper » Tue May 05, 2009 2:47 am

Well hello. I have been chatting away at night on the jesses forum and there arent many hound guys on there on a regular basis so I thought Id try this one out. Ive been hunting hogs with dogs for a little over 15 years. Monterey county is supposed to be the hog capital of the united states. Ive been lucky enough to have some places to hunt and some better places to sneak on over the years. My sneakin around days are over. I Hunt with an older, sober group of guys these days. Im Interested in possibly getting into some open trailing dogs. Try chasing cats or coyotes. I think I could give out some great info on hog hunting and have some great hog hunting photos. Hopefully I could learn a little more about other game. Give me a holler.

I lived in Salinas and Gonzales years ago..... Yes, it is "Hog Heaven" in Monterey County. Sorry about the pun  From Holister to King City and every place in between there are hogs. Least there was whe I was there. Monterey is my favorite place in California. LOVE it there. Now I am getting all nolstalgic.
I like my men like I like my mountains...... Rugged, challenging, and WILD!!!

Welcome! I leased a 12K acre ranch between Paso Robles and Parkfield for about 8 years. Had a lot of great memories there. It wasn't unusual to see 500 hogs in a weekend. I have one video of over a hundred hogs in one group! Once I watched a lion chasing some deer on that ranch. Please share some pictures with the rest of us!

Thanks for the nice welcome. Im hopin I can find some guys who run open mouth dogs on coyotes or cats in the monterey area. Im running out of hog hunting permission. Its so hard to get permission and the public land sucks. I was thinking I might do a switch to cats or coyotes. Hogs arent important for me really anymore. I could go to public land every weekend and strike a coyote every time. I could also bring whom ever I wanted. Its getting to the point where im waiting on an invite or just deciding to go to a spot where ill just get a dry run. The dogs are starting to get stale waiting for the call. If anybody knows a cat or coyote hunter please point em out.
